ISO 9001 was first published in 1987. Later, it went through three revisions in 1994, 2000 and 2008. The latest version version of the ISO 9001 standard was published on 14th November 2008. ISO 9000 applies to all types of organizations. It doesn't matter what size they are or what they do. It can help both product and service oriented organizations achieve standards of quality that are recognized and respected throughout the world.
ISO 14001 is the EMS Specification developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) of Geneva, Switzerland as a part of the ISO 14000 series of environmental management documents. ISO 14001 EMS standard is intended to address the identification, evaluation, and continual improvement of an organizations activities, products, or services that interact with the environment. ISO 14001 establishes a framework for the conduct of environmental management by requiring the organization to define an Environmental Policy and establish sixteen management procedures.
ISO 22000 is a standard for food safety management system (FSMS). ISO and its member countries used the Quality Management System approach, and tailored it to apply to Food Safety, incorporating the widely used and proven HACCP principles into the quality management system. The resulting standard is ISO 22000.
HACCP, or the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system, is a process control system that identifies where hazards might occur in the food production process and puts into place stringent actions to take to prevent the hazards from occurring. By strictly monitoring and controlling each step of the process, there is less chance for hazards to occur.Major Food Hazards are chemical residues, such as from pesticides and antibiotics, these hazards are nearly non-existent.
OHSAS 18001 provides a framework for the development of a management system that enables a site to control its H&S risks and improve its overall performance in this area. OHSAS 18001 is an Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system created to enable organizations to control occupational health and safety risks and to improve performances. OHSAS 18001 is designed to place a proactive and preventative emphasis on risk control factors by identifying and assessing the likelihood of hazards in the workplace.
ISO 13485: 2003 represents the requirements that medical device manufacturers must incorporate into their management systems. The current document supersedes its 1996 incarnation as well as EN 46001, EN 46002 and ISO 13488.
Though based on ISO 9001, 13485 removes 9001’s emphasis on continual improvement and customer satisfaction.
The European Commission refers to the CE Marking of products as a "passport" which can allow a manufacturer to freely circulate their products within the European marketplace. The actual CE Marking is the letters "CE" which a manufacturer affixes to certain products for access to the European market. The letters "CE' are an abbreviation of a French phrase "Conformite Europeene". The marking indicates that the manufacturer has conformed with all the obligations required by the legislation. Initially, the phrase was "CE Mark": however, "CE Marking" was legislated as its replacement in 1993.
AS9100 is the international management system standard for the Aircraft, Space and Defense (AS&D) industry. The standard provides suppliers with a comprehensive quality system for providing safe and reliable products to the aerospace industry. AS 9100 also addresses civil & military aviation requirements. Initially released in October 1999 by the Society of Automotive Engineers in the Americas and the European Association of Aerospace Industries in Europe, and thereafter by standards organizations in Japan and Asia. As such, it combines and harmonizes requirements outlined in the SAE's AS9000 and Europe's prEN9000-1 standards.
The ISO 27001 standard was published in October 2005, essentially replacing the old BS7799-2 standard. It is the specification for ISMS, an Information Security Management System. ISO/IEC 27001 specifies requirements for the establishment, implementation, monitoring and review, maintenance and improvement of a management system - an overall management and control framework - for managing an organization’s information security risks.
ISO/TS (Technical Specification) 16949 , is a quality management system standard specific to the Automotive industry, which includes all the requirements of the ISO 9000 quality management system standard verbatim. In addition, the standard combines the AVSQ (Italian), EAQF (French) and VDA 6.1 (German) automotive requirements.
CTPAT/C-TPAT is the Customs & Trade Partnership against Terrorism. TIt is a voluntary program between the Importer and Customs to protect our borders. Customs realizes that border security is a monumental task and is enlisting the trade community to assist in being "on patrol". CTPAT/C-TPAT recognizes that Customs can provide the highest level of security through close cooperation with the owners of the supply chain, importers, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators and manufacturers.
